Local Players in the Spotlight

Several players from the Tri-Cities have been in the news recently.

Hope Solo

Hope Solo was the starting goalkeeper for the US Women's National Team in 2006 as they won the Four Nations Tournament in China and finished second in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. She was named the Best Goalkeeper in each tournament. She continued as the starting goalkeeper during the second half of the year as the team also won the Peace Queen Cup in South Korea and the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup at home. The Gold Cup wins qualified the team for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China.

Hope continued as the starting goalkeeper for the US Women's National Team in 2007 as they won the Four Nations Tournament in China again. She was also named the Best Goalkeeper again.

Hope played in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Hope continued as the starting goalkeeper for the US Women's National Team in 2008 under new head coach Pia Sundhage, and helped the team win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in China.

  Preston Zimmerman completed the US U17 Men's National Team Residency Program and signed a contract with German club Hamburg in 2006. He played on the US U20 Men's National Team in the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup.
  Brandon Zimmerman, Preston's younger brother, entered the US U17 Men's National Team Residency Program in January 2006. He played on the US U17 Men's National Team in the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup.
